Following a competitive application process, Home Start Cymru has been selected to take part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge 2024, starting on 3rd December and ending on 10th December. All donations made during this period will be doubled by the Dulverton Trust. One donation, double the impact.
What is Home Start Cymru’s Big Give Campaign 2024?
Each festive season, we organise gifts to be donated and delivered to our supported families but this year, our appeal looks a little different. Our referrals have rocketed by 25% and we urgently need to raise funds to support families across Wales. We’re all facing a harsher winter, with household living expenses escalating month on month – 20% of Welsh households struggle to afford sufficient and nutritious food, 45% of households are expected to be in fuel poverty this winter and 31% of Welsh children are living in poverty. Your donations can make THE difference.
Last year, we were able to support 2000 children and 1250 families across Wales – in 2025, we hope to be able to help even more families, but we need your help. Most of our supported families are finding the cost of living, their mental health, and loneliness to be the main challenges and our team are equipped and successfully supporting many families to overcome this. Unfortunately, we cannot keep up with the increasing demand – and we will have to turn families away. With your donation, we hope to be able to increase our support team and ensure no family suffers alone.
At Home-Start Cymru, our staff and volunteers come together to provide flexible, compassionate, non-judgemental, emotional, and confidential support. We tailor our support to be as unique as the people we serve.
Our support services are delivered in a variety of ways:
Home Visiting: Our core service, where the comfort of home becomes a foundation for growth.
Community Support: Encouraging families to connect with and find strength in their local community.
Peer Support: Facilitating connections between families sharing similar journeys.
Group Support: Building circles of support where groups of families can grow together.
Targeted Support Programmes: Expertly designed initiatives to meet specific family needs.
We are aiming to raise £10,000 which will be match funded up to £20,000 by the Dulverton Trust. All the money raised will go towards funding more support for families across Wales. Your donations could help us to fund:
- £20,000 a Family Support Coordinator for one year.
- £250 could allow for 1:1 family support for a whole month.
- £48 could help train a volunteer to be there for struggling families when they need us most.
- £22 could help us recruit more volunteers, so that Home-Starts can reach more families.
- £30 could buy a winter uniform for a school aged child.
- £18 could mean one hour of volunteer training.
- £12 could mean an hour of 1:1 family support.
- £11 could help a family buy school shoes for a child.
- £5 could buy a small Christmas present for a child this Christmas.
The Big Give Campaign is the UK’s biggest collaborative fundraising campaign and every donation has the power to be doubled as it is matched £ for £. By donating to Home Start Cymru you can help us to double our impact across Wales. We hope to be able to support more families in 2025 – meeting the referral increase and going above and beyond for families to ensure they do not battle poverty, mental health challenges, loneliness, and isolation without support.

Share our Campaign
A great way to get involved with our campaign is to talk about it to your friends, families, colleagues, and anyone else you can think of! Sharing our campaign, particularly our campaign video and our campaign page (when they go live on 3/12!) on social media or by email is a great option to get involved virtually. The Big Give Christmas Challenge is a great way for your organisation to get into the festive spirit and support a Welsh family. If you want to get involved, we are looking for people to host Christmas Tree takeover’s in their local area – find a local shop, school or church who have a Christmas Tree display planned and ask them if you can add Home Start Cymru Big Giving baubles to the tree to highlight our campaign and provide easy QR codes for individuals to donate between 3rd-10th December. All you need to do is email hengland@homestartcymru.org.uk and we will send you a fundraising pack with all the details and ball balls plus information on how to host your Big Giving Tree for Home Start Cymru.
